Comprehensive Eye Examinations

An annual comprehensive eye examination is the best way to protect vision and maintain a lifetime of healthy eyes. Routine eye examinations are an important part of preventative health care. Many eye conditions and diseases do not have any obvious signs or symptoms. Early diagnosis and management by one of our experienced optometrists can help prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association recommends a routine vision examination yearly or bi-yearly depending on certain risks.

The comprehensive vision examination is designed to evaluate the health of the eye and diagnose any visual conditions or diseases; as well as, determine a prescription for eyeglasses and contact lenses. At MS Vision Care, a comprehensive eye examination may include:

  • Complete Patient History
  • Visual Acuity Measurement
  • Pupil Evaluation
  • Eye Muscle Testing
  • Examination of Peripheral Visual Field
  • Color Vision Testing
  • Refraction to determine prescription for eyeglasses and contact lenses
  • Intraocular Pressure Measurement
  • Eye Health Evaluation
  • Retinal Imaging

We encourage all patients to bring to their eye examination the following: current/old eyeglasses, any eyedrops you regularly use, and a list of current medications

Contact Lens Fitting and Evaluation

If you wear or want to wear contact lenses, a contact lens examination is needed in addition to the comprehensive eye examination. A contact lens patient must be seen at least once a year. Unlike spectacle eyeglasses, corrective contact lenses sit directly on the front surface of both eyes. Therefore, there is a higher potential for eye infections. It is essential for your eye care practitioner to annually check the fit of your contact lenses and the health of the anterior surface of the eye to monitor for any eye health problems or other issues that may interfere with successful contact lens wear.

The contact lens fitting is designed to evaluate vision and fit of contact lenses on your eyes. It is important for contact lenses to fit properly and comfortably, as an improper fitting can cause damage to the health of your eyes. Most patients can successfully wear contact lenses with new advancements in contact lens technology, including patients with astigmatism and bifocal requirements. There are many choices when it comes to contact lens design, and our professional optometrists will choose a lens to best meet your visual needs.

At MS Vision Care, a contact lens evaluation and fitting may include:

  • Discussion of lifestyle and preferences regarding contact lenses
  • Corneal curvature measurement to determine optimal contact lens size and design
  • Tear film evaluation to determine adequate tear stability to keep contact lenses sufficiently hydrated
  • Evaluation of movement and centration of contact lenses on the eyes
  • Over-refraction to optimize vision
  • Instructions on proper care, hygiene, and replacement schedule of lenses

The optometrists at MS Vision Care specialize in the fitting of the following contact lens designs:

  • Daily Disposable Contact Lenses
  • Bi-weekly or Monthly Replacement Contact Lenses
  • Toric Contact Lenses for patients with astigmatism
  • Multifocal or Monovision contact lenses for patients with bifocal needs
  • Colored Contact Lenses
  • Specialty Contact Lenses including RGPs, Scleral lenses, and Hybirds

If you are a new patient and wear contact lenses, please bring in your current contact lens packaging or boxes with contact lens brand to your appointment.
